Burger culture in Hamburg
The name “hamburger” actually comes from Hamburg. As early as the 19th century, a dish called “Rundstück warm” was popular here – a warm bread roll with fried minced meat. Many emigrants from Hamburg took this dish with them on ships to New York. There, it evolved into the “Hamburg steak” and eventually into the modern hamburger we know today. No wonder Hamburg is known for its excellent burgers.
